Sharon Leverett is empowering single parents

As a single parent raising an African American child, Sharon Leverett  wondered why there weren’t any magazines, newspapers or websites that spoke directly to her as a single parent.  Why didn’t anyone speak to her in a positive way about the dynamics of single parenting?  Why didn’t anyone give her empowerment tools? That’s why she founded singleblackparents.com.

How do you describe your work? It’s all part of my passion to get information out that empowers single parents.

What 3 adjectives best describe you? Good, loyal, responsible

Cats, dogs, birds … describe your pets?Presently, I have none. I love cats but found out when I adopted one, years ago, that I’m allergic.

Favorite season? Fall.  Not too hot, not too cold.  Love to see the leaves change.

Name a city you’d love to visit.  Why? Accra, Ghana. It’s just full of history and a city in Africa I promise to myself that I’ll visit one day.

What’s the best thing about being single? No one to answer to but myself.

Describe your ideal “Girls’ Night Out”. Dinner and drinks at a great restaurant and lots and lots of girl talk.

What’s the nicest thing a friend (or friends) has done for you? Over the years my best friends have been the ones with the kindest words and words of wisdom when I needed them most.

What do you do for “Sharon” time? It can be a variety of things but all involve pampering. From sweet baths to mani/pedi’s to lying on the couch all day on Sunday reading.

What’s the best advice you ever received? When I first started parenting my child as a toddler my Aunt Kathy told me: “When they’re little they have little problems.  When they’re big they have big problems”  That always stuck in my mind and helped me to put things in perspective as I went through various stages of development with my daughter.

What quality do you admire most in a man? Honesty. A man’s ability to be honest with himself will govern how honest he will be with his mate and how honestly he will live in the world.

What quality do you admire most in a woman? Strength. Women need strength in so many areas of their lives to live a fulfilling and love filled life.

Who are your  real life heroes? Women and men who never give up on their dreams.

What is your guilty pleasure?  Horrible, horrible reality TV shows.

What is your biggest fear? I pray for courage to overcome my fears so that nothing stands in the way of my realizing my dreams and goals.

If you could change one thing in your past, what would it be? Hindsight is 20/20 and I have no regrets but I could have worked harder in some of my past relationships.

Other than your own talents, what talent would you most like to have? I would love to be able to sing really well.

What is your motto? Or what words do you live by? I try constantly to live by : If you talk the talk you’ve got to walk the walk.
