32-year-old Lisa Maynard-Atem turned her ability to spot a trend into an award-winning business. Now when this Manchester native styles a run way show, music video or television, they call it Stylisa.
How do you describe your work? My work is about creating the right image and teaching clients to make intellectual style choices, and not merely go shopping for an outfit. I believe that style is a state of mind and fashion is merely the clothing that we adorn ourselves with. If you feel good about yourself, you are always going to look great, no matter what you wear. Style is the eternal trend and confidence is the ultimate accessory.
What three adjectives best describe you? Happy, Friendly, Ambitious.
Cats, dogs, birds … describe your pets? My shoes are my pets I’m afraid.
Favorite season? Summer because my closet is full of 1950’s vintage summer dresses and petticoats.
Name a city you’d love to visit. Why? Tokyo, because the fashion is mixture of traditional Japanese attire (Kimono) and westernized fashion – I love it!
What’s the best thing about being single? Having the freedom to do what I want, when I want.
Describe your ideal “Girls’ Night Out.” Cocktails, dancing and lots of laughter.
What’s the nicest thing a friend (or friends) have done for you? Given me money from their wedding fund, when I was short of cash and needed some help with my business! However, my friends do nice things for me all the time, so I am very lucky and blessed.
What do you do for “Lisa” time? I love dancing, especially Salsa. My father lives in Brazil, so I am going to go and just dance the nights away.
What’s the best advice you ever received? Live in the moment and be happy with who you are!
What quality do you admire most in a man? Humour – I am a person who loves to laugh, so they have to have a sense of humour.
What quality do you admire most in a woman? Confidence.
Who are your real life heroes? My mother and an amazing lady called Marilyn Comrie.
What is your guilty pleasure? Shoes and Oreos.
What is your biggest fear? I have no ‘major’ fears – I just want to live life, be healthy, and be happy.
If you could change one thing in your past, what would it be? I wouldn’t change anything because all of those experiences have made me who I am today.
Other than your own talents, what talent would you most like to have? I would like to have a head for figures. Math has never been my strong point.
What is your motto? Or what words do you live by? Don’t worry, be happy!
