I Was Wrong About Beautiful People…

When I was in college, overly coiffed, trust fund brats sporting wardrobes of designer labels and educated at the finest private schools were called BPs or Beautiful People.  The perception was that they were shallow egomaniacs, not always bright, riding on the coat tails of their family names without much regard for anyone outside of their elite social circle.

When I graduated, I realized that BPs existed in the real world too and although they didn’t have their parents coat tails to ride, the rest applied still.

Well, turns out I was wrong, at least about one thing.  Beautiful people do care about us.  They don’t want us to have ugly children.

Dating site www.BeautifulPeople.com has just launched a virtual sperm and egg bank, The Beautiful Baby Service, offering the highest level of genetic material to people who want to maximize their chances of having good looking children.  Lucky for those of us on the unsightly side, the service is open to non-members.

Oh joy.

Since its creation in 2002, the site claims to have grown to become the world’s largest community of beautiful people with over 600,000 members from 190 countries.  (The number of members dropped slightly after a recent cull of 5,000 members who had gained weight.)  Like most dating/networking sites, it will help you expand your network, create lifelong friendships and find lasting love with this one exception – no uglies allowed.

But before you get your knickers in a twist, the community is a democracy!  Members of the opposite sex vote ‘yes definitely,’ ‘hmm yes, O.K.,’ ‘hmm no, not really’ and ‘NO Definitely NOT’ based on photographs and a brief profile submitted by new applicants.

According to Dr Mohamed Menabawey of The London Bridge Fertility, Gynecology and Genetics Center, the removal of donor anonymity has created a massive UK shortage of donor gametes.  Donors like site member James Frederiksen are happy to come to the rescue, “I’m from Norway and it’s very common for young, healthy men there to donate sperm. There seems to be a shortage worldwide, being a BeautifulPeople.com member I wanted to do whatever I could to help others create beautiful babies.”

Founder Robert Hintze initially hesitated with widening the offering to non-beautiful people but decided the company couldn’t be selfish “with our attractive gene pool” because “everyone – including ugly people – would like to bring good looking children in to the world.”  According to Hintze, every parent would like their child to be blessed with many fine attributes, attractiveness being one of the most sought after.

I’m confused I thought it was good health?

Well never mind.  Thank you beautiful people.  Thank you for the opportunity.
