Picture your dream guy. No, not George Clooney! Picture the guy you’re hoping to meet someday who will fulfill your every fantasy, who comes pre-packaged with a host of accomplishments, perfect looks, particular personality traits and hobbies you enjoy? Ok.
Now picture the guys you actually date.
Are they alike?
Does your current date have the bone structure of your dream guy? Or the educational credentials you require? What about his hobbies? Would he rather play video games for hours upon hours vs. your dream guys’ hobby of shopping with you all day? Most likely the men you actually date and get into relationships with are nothing like the guy in your head!
Why?
Women tend to date the same type of guy over and over again, whether or not he is good for you. Subconsciously you may not even realize it!
A few years back I thought I had found the one. He was smart, witty, charming and had many things on my “checklist.” But as time went on I realized he was JUST like the rest of the losers I dated before him. A man-boy who never grew up! Seemed I always found the self absorbed, man-boy who played video games for hours on end with no motivation to really do anything with his life. Why was I attracted to men like that? Well I’m still figuring that part out, but breaking the cycle can be done! Here are my tips for finding the right guy for you:
No One Is Perfect
Remember that you have to pick men from the human race, so perfection is non-existent. YOU are not perfect, my dear! Get rid of your “checklist.” You will never find someone that lives up to that fairy tale ideal!
Step Out Of Your Comfort Zone
Go on dates with men that you might not be immediately attracted to. Friendship and compatibility are the foundations of a long term relationship, not physical attraction. So get rid of looking for that fantasy man you have in your head! If you like guys that are blonde haired and blue eyed, go on dates with guys that have dark hair and brown eyes! The man you end up spending your life with may be of a different race, age, religion or may even be a little shorter than you!
Enlist Your Girls To Help You
Your closest girlfriends know what type of guy you normally date and are attracted to. Let them know you need their help so they can step in, if necessary, when they see you cozying up to Adolfo at the bar who is just like Jose and Javier and Pablo and, well you get the point!
Change Your Scenery
Go to a different park, grocery store or library. Join a group or a club that is new and different. You will be surprised at how many different types of people you will meet. That’s how I met my guy-who is nothing like the man I used to dream of, but he’s everything I’ve ever wanted!
