I’ve been in love with Lucille Ball since I was a little girl. Maybe it was the curly hair that attracted me? Or her spunk. Lucy always did exactly what she wanted to do even if she got in trouble.
Raised by a single mom with the help of her grandparents, her success was hard won. By the time her career took off with “I Love Lucy”, she had evolved into more than just her image of a ditzy red head. She pioneered the 3-camera sitcom technique and the concept of syndicating television programs. She was also the first woman to own her own film studio as the head of Desilu.

In honor of what would have been her 100th birthday, today’s Google Doodle is a TV set with clips from some of our favorite episodes, including my personal favorite, Lucy at a vineyard stomping grapes.
For those of you who are newly single and for those of you who think you can’t spend one more second doing this by yourself, treat yourself to a little laughter and rent one of her DVDs. Or if you get the Hallmark Channel, an “I Love Lucy” marathon began at 5 a.m. today and will run through 8 a.m. on Monday.
When you feel alone, Lucy feels like family, doesn’t she?
